SENTENCED IN POTTER COUNTY COURT

Sentencing of a Coudersport woman in Potter County Court represented the latest chapter in a long legal saga surrounding the physical abuse of a young girl almost two years ago.

Judge John B. Leete placed 49-year-old Dorothy Buchanan on probation for 18 months for making false reports to law enforcement and unsworn falsification.

In May 2006, Buchanan told state police that her daughter had struck Buchanan's granddaughter. The story was corroborated by the victim's uncle, Sean Scharlau.

Further investigation revealed that Scharlau was the assailant. He received a jail sentence.

Judge Leete ordered Buchanan to comply with all provisions of the probation designation, pay a $50 fine and perform 25 hours of community service.

In other recent Potter County Court action, three men were sentenced by Judge Leete.

A jury convicted 48- year-old Daniel Terrette, Shinglehouse, of driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). He was sentenced to a jail term of 90 days to five years, fined $1,650, and ordered to perform 25 hours of community service.

Terrette was arrested Dec. 16, 2006, after state police investigated a snowmobile crash on Honeoye Street in Sharon Township. Chemical testing conducted at Charles Cole Hospital showed that the defendant had an alcohol level of .21 percent, well beyond the legal limit of .08 percent.

A former Roulette resident was placed on probation for 23 months for theft of prescription medication.

Justin Cochran, 27, now of Swain, N.Y., was at a private home in Roulette Township last June and allegedly stole painkillers. He was ordered to pay a $250 fine, perform 25 hours of community service, and undergo drug and alcohol evaluation.

A Coudersport woman will be sentenced on April 9 for her second DUI charge.

Becky Sue Olson, 26, was arrested Nov. 6 following a collision in front of a west Coudersport tavern.

Her blood alcohol was found to be .11 percent.
