Land aquired at Big Run

Another 7.5 acres of forest land have been added to the Bucktail Natural Area in Elk County.

A settlement was reached to resolve a land dispute dating back to 1951, when the state purchased 800 acres from a private owner. A 15-acre tract on the eastern side of the bottom of Big Run, adjacent to Rt. 120, remained in dispute.

Recently, a compromise was reached. Each of the two parties has agreed to receive 7.5 acres. The Pa. Bureau of Forestry has posted signs designating the additional acreage as part of the Bucktail Natural Area.
