'Blue' girls win All-Star Game Kristy Kamper has no interest in playing college basketball, but the Coudersport senior still had the sport on her mind Saturday afternoon at Penn State DuBois. Kamper, the District 9 Player of the Year, scored seven points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists in leading Blue over White, 80-65, in the ninth annual Alice R. Kozel Foundation Girls' Basketball All- Star Game. Blue's Jackie Lutz (West Forest) scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to win MVP honors. Cameron County's Kristin Sestina pulled down nine rebounds for Blue. Austin's Rayna Valenti and Jessica Wilson were members of the White team. Joining Kamper in being honored with individual awards are St. Marys' Kayla Hoohuli as District 9 Rookie of the Year and West Forest's Bob Wachob as Coach of the Year. "Kristy is a two-year member of the first-team All-District team and has been one of the most consistent players in the district the last two seasons," said Chris Rossetti from D9Sports.com, an Internet sports information service that co-sponsored the awards. Kamper was the secondleading scorer in District 9 this season at 19.7 points per game. She helped the Falcons to the District 9 Class A and the Northern Tier League championships. Coudersport then advanced to the second round of the PIAA Class A playoffs. An all-around player, she added 5.9 rebounds, 5.6 steals and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. Kamper finished her career with 1,345 points, the second most in school history. She is the first D9 Player of the Year from Coudersport. Joining Kamper and Hoohuli as first-team all-stars were Lacey Blose, Sr., G, Redbank Valley; Ashley Campbell, Jr., F, Karns City; Allyson Kepple, Sr., G, Karns City; and Geena Sneeringer, So. G, West Forest. Valenti was one of six picks for the second team for the second consecutive season after helping the Panthers to a fourth-place finish in District 9 Class A and the school's first PIAA playoff berth. She averaged 16.4 points per game and added 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.3 assists per contest. Valenti finished her career as the fifth-leading scorer in school history with 1,213 points. Wilson was a third-team selection for the third straight season. She averaged 11.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.9 steals, 2.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. She finished her career as the fifth-leading scorer in school history with 1,162 points. |
