Rite Aid supporting charity An Emporium pharmacy is spearheading a fund-raiser for the Children's Miracle Network. Many businesses and individuals in Emporium and St. Marys have donated prizes for an auction organized by the Rite Aid for Janet Weis Children's Hospital, a part of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Among supporters so far are: Buttonwood, Pitt Stop, Bi-Lo, Flowers-N-Things, Emporium Pharmacy, Subway, East End Beverage, Valley Meats, Pizza Palace Plus, Sterling Run Tavern, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Domino's Pizza, Kwik Fill, Goodwill of Falls Creek, Aroma Bakery & Café, Herr's, L & M Lumber, Pepsi, Prontock Beverage, Coca-Cola, Lori Haynes, Fox's Pizza and Dollar General. Also, Furniture for Less, Krazy A, DD's Bakery, Luigi's, National City Bank, Federal Credit Union, Northwest Savings Bank, Medicine Shoppe, Mountain View Bowling Center, Paul Letterman (wooden frame set and stool), Sandy Brown and Thelma Fairman (hand-made quilt). Donations are still welcome for bake sales to be held on April 18 and May 3. Also on May 3, non-clothing items are needed for a yard sale, Emporium Police Department will be fingerprinting children and a car wash will be held. Emporium Rite Aid manager Vince Thomas is looking for sponsors to support his 40-mile bike ride from Emporium to St. Marys and back. A 50/50 raffle will be held on May 10, with tickets being sold for a $1 a piece. Thomas said the fund-raising goal locally is $4,000.
