'Step back in time' May 5

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce plans to show a home movie from the county's last big birthday party during the next meeting of the Sesquicentennial Committee.

The video captures a parade held in 1960 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the county's founding. It will air on Monday, May 5, at the Cameron County Courthouse, starting at 7 pm. Following the showing of the movie will be a

Sesquicentennial Committee meeting.

Chamber officials say everyone is welcome to watch the video and stick around to discuss plans for the county's 150th birthday bash in 2010.

Planning began in earnest earlier this year. According to Tina Lorson, Chamber executive director, a year-long celebration is the goal.

Among the preliminary plans are a focus on historic homes in the Cameron County; recognition of notable citizens with roots in Cameron County over the past 150 years; a parade and festival; tours covering sites of historical significance in the county; and many others.

Many organizations are expected to become involved, including Emporium Borough, Cameron County Board of Commissioners, Emporium Borough Police Department, Cameron County School District, Sylvan Heritage Council and Cameron County Arts.
