Copper thieves strike

Yet another theft of copper is under investigation by state police from the Denton Hill barracks.

The most recent incident took place earlier this week when thieves took about 400 feet of copper tubing and wire from an old warehouse on Main Street in the village of Genesee. They also cause approximately $4,000 in damage.

Police identified the victim as Adam Chapman of Wellsville, N.Y.

Just dropping by

State police at Denton Hill are continuing their probe of an odd incident taking place early last Thursday at Rohrer's Trailer Court on Railroad Avenue in the village of Roulette.

An unknown male entered the mobile home of Cheryl Card through an unlocked door. When confronted by the victim, the intruder left, got into the passenger side of a dark blue or black pickup truck, and departed.

DUI charge pending

Charges are pending against an Emporium man who was involved in a motor vehicle crash last Sunday afternoon on Route 46 in Shippen Township.

Emporium-based state police say John Sandrovich lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a lefthand curve, causing the vehicle to drift off the road, land in a ditch, strike a concrete culvert, continue along the ditch and roll to a stop.

Police said their investigation concluded that Sandrovich was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Two-car collision

Neither driver was injured in a two-car mishap taking place Sunday afternoon in Pike Township.

State police report that 20- year-old Alexander Bailey drove his car onto Phoenix Road, into the path of a vehicle driven by Courtney Gill of Galeton. Bailey is being cited for failing to obey stop and yield signs.

Hit and runs probed

State police from Denton Hill are investigating two hit and run incidents taking place in Potter County.

At about 1:30 Sunday morning, a vehicle went off of Route 872, near the village of Costello in Sylvania Township, and struck a car owned by Angela Jeffers of Ridgway, as well as a wooden pole holding four mailboxes.

Police also report that, at about 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, an eastbound car struck a wooden mailbox post belonging to Dale Davis at the intersection of Main Street and Fishing Creek Road Extension in the village of Roulette.

Both drivers left the scene without notifying property owners or police.

Disorderly conduct

Both people involved in a fight Sunday afternoon at a residence along the West Branch of Dingman Run Road in Eulalia Township are being cited by state police for disorderly conduct.

Charges were filed against Benjamin Keech and Ray Pelchy of Eulalia Township.

Watch that turkey!

A Roulette Township man escaped injury Tuesday in a one-vehicle crash on Route 6. State police said Paul Gerhart lost control of his westbound Pontiac Sunbird when he swerved to avoid a low-flying turkey which had flown into his path after embarking from the southern berm.

The car crossed to the other side of the road and slammed into four metal fence posts. Gerhart is being charged for failing to drive at a safe speed.

Fugitive nabbed

An 18-year-old Ulysses resident has been committed to the Potter County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail after being picked up Friday on a warrant from New York State.

Douglas Reid was wanted by state police on charges of endangering the welfare of a child. He remains in custody, pending extradition.

Medication pilfered

A burglary at a Genesee Township residence is being investigated by state police at Denton Hill.

Thieves took prescription medicine valued at $70, as well as assorted change and currency, from the home of Ashley Aldrich on Academy Street between 7 pm and 11 pm last Friday.

Teens face charges

Two Potter County teenagers are facing criminal charges filed by state police at the Denton Hill barracks.

Troopers said a 17-year-old Ulysses boy and Coudersport girl, also 17, have been referred to juvenile authorities after being cited for theft, forgery, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy.

According to police, the two were passengers in a vehicle that was pulled over on suspicion of drunken driving. They were found to be in possession of a checkbook belonging to a Ulysses woman. It contained a forged check made out to the boy in the amount of $752.

Police refused to release the name of the two suspects.

Both drivers charged

Both drivers are facing charges following a collision last Wednesday on Route 6 in Pike Township.

According to police, Helen Lazorchak of Galeton stopped her vehicle on the double-yellow line, preparing to make a left turn. An eastbound car driven by Travis Main, also of Galeton, struck the Lazorchak vehicle.
