Leek 'Fezz-tival' set at Fezz's Diner April 26
By Travis Moshier Endeavor News

'Fezz' cleaning leeks.
Anyone driving through Sweden Valley in central Potter County on April 26 might want to stop at Fezz's Dinner and get a mouth - or perhaps a nose - full at the third annual Leek Fezz-tival.

It's more than a clever promotion for a business; it's a community celebration of spring with a tip of the cap to the timeless tradition of leek digging, or "picking," as some locals call it.

Activities start with a best leek dish contest at noon. Three prizes - dips, dishes and desserts - will be awarded. Anyone not interested in competing is still welcome to bring leek dishes to pass around. A children's coloring contest will also be judged at noon.

At 2 pm, the children will have their own leek hunt. Parents shouldn't be worried, organizer Ron "Fezz" Linden explained; the leeks will be fake to avoid the odors traditionally associated with the native wild onions.

Oldies music will be featured from 4 to 8 pm for a sock hop. Linden wants to carry the '50s theme throughout the day and encourages people to dress the part.

Linden said last year's turnout was lower than the first year, something he attributed to the colder weather.

"People here are just wild about leeks - you'd be amazed," he pointed out.
