Autism awareness event planned April 26 Several downtown storefront windows in Emporium will be decked out in designs next week to raise awareness of autism. Members of North Central Pa. Autism Support Group will meet at 10 am on Saturday at Northwest Savings Bank and paint puzzle pieces, awareness ribbons and the names and handprints of the children in the group. It's part of the organization's awareness event on April 26. Autism is a neurodevelopment disorder characterized by a cognitive problem that affects social/adaptive functioning. Hot sausage sandwiches and hot dogs will be sold at the corner of Fourth and Broad streets from 10 am to 1 pm. Proceeds benefit the Support Group and families in Cameron, McKean and Elk counties. Next meeting of the Support Group is scheduled for 10 am Saturday, May 10, at the Cameron County Family Center on Fifth Street in Emporium. Those who are interested in autism are encouraged to join the group. For more information, call Mary Lee Uber at 486-3034. |
