ARBOR DAY ACTIVITIES BEING PLANNED Organizations in Cameron and Potter counties are gearing up for Arbor Day on Friday, April 25, with ceremonies, tree plantings and programs. Arbor Day celebrates the importance of trees. Emporium's Shade Tree Commission will host a ceremony at 10 am next to the municipal building on Broad Street. Twelve trees will be planted along Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Maple streets. Also on Friday, Potter County Conservation District will plant a shrub in memory of Dale Saulter at 1:30 pm at the county fairgrounds in Millport. An education program, "My Growing Tree," will be presented by the Conservation District to first-graders in Potter County. The class shares the history of Arbor Day and the benefits and products from trees and watersheds. Students will receive a potted hemlock tree and a chart to measure its growth. |
