Genevro top scholar athlete at PSU

Penn State DuBois basketball player Kevin "Kez" Genevro has been named the University's John C. Egli Outstanding Male Scholar- Athlete for 2007-08. This honor is given to one male and one female student per year, chosen from the 1,400 students who participate in one or more of the 10 varsity sports offered at the 15 locations of the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

He is the son of Kevin and Lori Genevro of St. Marys, and the grandson of Tim and Jan Kinsler of Emporium.

A 2006 graduate of Elk County Catholic High School, Genevro is a mechanical engineering major and has received many basketball honors over the past two years at Penn State DuBois.

"I am very proud of Kevin and I cannot think of a more deserving student to be awarded this honor," said Penn State DuBois Chancellor Dr. Anita McDonald. "He has shown himself to be a true role model, both on the court and in the classroom."

His coach, Dave Bennett, said, "Kez works hard on his academics and that has a positive influence on the underclassmen, because they see one of the best players on the team as a true student-athlete."

The award was established in honor of Assistant Professor John Egli in recognition of his service to Penn State as a student, athlete, faculty member, and coach.
