LOTS GOING ON SATURDAY IN EMPORIUM

Saturday is shaping up as a busy day in Emporium, so many people have their fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate.

Sylvan Heritage Council will be out with a corps of volunteers for the "Clean Up Emporium" campaign.

Emporium Volunteer Fire Department will kick off the event by washing all sidewalks and the roadways starting at 7 am.

Volunteers will gather at the minipark on Chestnut Street at 8 am to get organized and begin tackling cleanup projects along Fourth Street. Gloves, safety vests and trash bags will be available.

Business windows will be cleaned, the street swept of any remaining debris, and mulch placed around the trees that line the business district. The triangle will be cleaned of debris and entrances to Emporium on Rt. 120 will be mulched and prepared for the planting of flowers later in the spring.

A skatepark fund-raising event, entitled "Skate-A-Palooza," will be held at the lot beside Admit One Video. Townspeople are encouraged to get involved and support a skater to raise money for a new skatepark.

Several downtown storefront windows in Emporium are decked out in designs to observe Saturday as Autism Awareness Day.

Members of North Central Pa. Autism Support Group will be selling hot sausage sandwiches and hot dogs at the corner of Fourth and Broad streets from 10 am to 1 pm. Proceeds benefit the Support Group and families in Cameron, McKean and Elk counties.
