DCED rep. tours Austin Site

A state community development official was in Potter County earlier this week for a first-hand look at the Austin Dam Memorial Park and surrounding property.

Kim Wheeler from the State Department of Community and Economic Development visited the site on Tuesday. Her department has been contacted for possible financial support as local officials put together a plan to expand the park into a section south of the massive Austin Dam ruins.

One version of the plan calls for development of a walking or bicycling trail leading from the dam site southward to Austin Borough.

Another state agency, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, has also taken an interest in the plan.

Among the organizations involved in this developing plan are Austin Borough Council, the Austin Dam Memorial Association, the Potter County Commissioners, Potter County Redevelopment Authority and the Potter County Visitors Association.
