Confident Red Raiders rolling at 8-0

David Lyon is a key player for the Red Raiders.
Playoffs are on the horizon as Cameron County continue to conquer all challengers in high school baseball.

Coach Dick Harrier 's Red Raiders (8-0) toppled Elk County Catholic, 8-2, on Tuesday night in Cameron Clingan's 2008 mound debut. Clingan worked four innings, scattering five hits and walking a pair while fanning seven. Garrett Hornung got the save, quieting the Crusaders through the final three frames on just one hit.

Five walks helped the Raiders double their 2-0 lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second.

David Lyon's long three-run homer in the fifth plated Jordan Crane and Hornung - each of whom scored three runs - and gave the hosts some breathing room.

Last Thursday, Lyon took his turn on the mound and delivered a two-hitter as Cameron County won a 13-0 laugher at Smethport. Lyon fanned nine and walked three.

Lyon also did damage with his bat, joining Sean McManigle and Clingan in smacking home runs that accounted for eight total runs.

Crane, Abram Zoschg and Mike Baker each had a double and two singles.

"Coach Harrier has a nice team," said Smethport coach Rick Austin. "They have it all - hitting, pitching and defense."

"We do have a very strong team," Harrier told the Olean Times Herald. "We have five guys hitting .500 or more."

"Physically, this team can do it," Harrier continued. "We just need to keep the right state of mind . . . I'm very confident. Every team throws their best pitcher at us. With our hitting, we're taking care of business."

Cameron County returns to action Friday night at Coudersport, followed by a trip to Johnsonburg on Saturday (11 am) and a visit to Kane on Monday.
