Car racing season opens this weekend McKean County Raceway opens its season with a full card if auto racing Saturday night. On Sunday, Allegany Mountain Raceway in Kane gets rolling. At East Smethport, Saturday's card will be highlighted by the annual Jim Duffy Memorial for Late Models, with a $2,000 prize to the winner. Super Stocks, Emods, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and the new Pure Stock class will also be ready to roll. Gates open at 5 with racing set for 7. AMR has a full slate of Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks and Chargers scheduled for Sunday's debut. Gates will open at 3 pm, with racing to kick off at 5. Admission will be $10 for adults, $8 for students (age 10-15) and senior citizens (age 60 and older) and free for children under 10. Results from the sixth annual Elk County Race Car Show in St. Marys were recently announced. The event raised $1,200 for the Elk County Humane Society. Among winners were the St. Marys trio of Kyle Beimel (bestappearing modified), Bob McMillen (best-appearing late model) and Brandon Woodward (best-appearing enduro); Emporium's Mark Schweikart (best-appearing pure stock); Olean's Steve Mowrey (best-appearing front wheel drive four-cylinder) and Bruno Mowrey (best-appearing street stock); and Weedville's Chris Gray (best-appearing 4-cylinder charger). |
