ART GALLERY PROPOSED

Area residents are being surveyed to determine if an art gallery could be opened in Emporium by July 1.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce executive director Tina Johns Lorson hopes to have the gallery open in time to participate in the Artisan Trail, an initiative of the Pennsylvania Wilds program to feature the talents of local artists.

"It would make sense that Cameron County jumps on board," she said.

Lorson pointed out that the facility would showcase art work and host workshops.

Gallery would be operated by Chamber staff in conjunction with Cameron County Arts.

The Chamber has applied for a $20,000 grant from the Pa. Dept. of Economic and Community Development.

Chamber directors will meet on May 13 to discuss where the gallery would be located.

Survey forms will be sent home with students in grades kindergarten through 12. They're also available at the Chamber office and local businesses.

For information, contact the Chamber at 486-4314.
