Wildfires keeping firefighters busy

Firefighters from Ulysses were summoned at about noon Saturday for a report of heavy smoke in the Jackson Road in Bingham Twp.

They arrived to discover a large wildfire raging about one-fourth mile from the Ulysses/Hickox Road. About four acres burned.

While volunteers were battling that fire, another alarm went out for assistance to battle a wildfire in Westfield Township in the Potter Brook area, near the Potter/Tioga County border.

That fire consumed approximately 50 acres and threatened several homes before firefighters were able to bring it under control.

Also on Saturday, Austin Volunteer Fire Department responders were called to a wildlife on Cowley Hill Road. By the time they arrived, residents if the area had extinguished the blaze.
