Search and Rescue team to be honored Tuesday

A lifesaving and community service organization in Cameron County will be honored on Tuesday for its many volunteer projects.

Mountaineer Search and Rescue will receive the Friends Group Award at the annual Pa. Parks and Forests Foundation banquet in Harrisburg.

The squad searches for lost hunters and hikers, maintains trails at state parks, fights wildfires and supports community organizations, such as the American Cancer Society.

"It's an entire team effort," said Mountaineer Search and Rescue president Steve Bajor. "This award is pretty special."

The group has about 18 active members, ranging from college students to retirees.
