CAMERON SPCA PROJECT MOVING

Improvements have been made at the Cameron County SPCA's South Mountain Holding Pen.

The Emporium Foundation and Emporium Borough assisted the SPCA renovate and upgrade the kennel.

A new roof, wiring and outside dog runs were added. Dog doors were installed and walls were painted.

Next on the agenda are kennel improvements and landscaping.

A grant from the Emporium Foundation was used to match an allotment from the borough to help pay for some of the work. Individual donations and receipts from fund-raisers were also used. Emporium Borough worker Rick Clark and George Sowers assisted with the labor.

South Mountain Holding Pen is used by the borough and state dog law officers. SPCA leaders still hope to have their own shelter and kennels in the coming years, but the arrangement with Emporium Borough is working for now.

Cameron County SPCA still operates a spay/neuter program, while helping with lost pets, instances of animal abuse, medical emergencies and strays.
