Austin Alle-Catt team opens next weekend

Adult baseball is returning to Austin as the newest member of the Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League prepares to make its debut next weekend.

Austin will start the season Saturday afternoon on the road against Olean AOH (2 pm). Home opener is Sunday, May 18, against Port Allegany, the start of three straight home games before a June 1 trip to Emporium.

Kevin Gledhill and Nate Burgett are player-coaches on a 17-man roster that includes a few recruits from the Coudersport area.

Despite being a new team, Austin should be one of the better teams in the league.

Gledhill (OF) and Burgett (catcher) are among nine players on the roster who could see time on the mound. Steve Brink, fresh from Westminster College, will be a speedster atop the batting order and will patrol one of the outfield positions.

Other players include: Kyle Gledhill, Kris Gledhill, Joe Burgett, Kirk Duffee, Zach Buckler, Josh Cooney, Kyle Dynda, Andy Cooney, Jesse Whitman, Cody Housler, Seth Walker, Oren Stuckey, Jeremy Smith and Mike Fowler.
