Endeavor News sports in brief New football coaches At least three area high school football teams will have new head coaches for the 2008 season. Mark Morelli was not rehired by the Ridgway Area High School after 11 years as head coach and 17 as an assistant. He will be succeeded by 30-year-old Mark Heindl, who served as an assistant for four years. Morelli, 48, has already signed on as an assistant for head coach Joe Schlimm at St. Marys Public. Also out is Rob Cosper at Smethport, who will be succeeded by Ryan Yingling. As reported earlier, Coudersport's Paul Simcoe has retired and assistant coach Brendan Hathaway will take over as head coach in 2008. Girls' basketball camp A summer basketball camp for girls will be held at Cameron County High School June 9 through June 13. It is being organized by Dave Sullivan, head varsity basketball coach at Cameron County. The camp is open to any girl entering grade five through members of the class of 2009. Separate sessions are planned for grades 5/6, 7/8, and 9 through 12. Sullivan said the camp will emphasize basketball fundamentals. Skill contests and games will also be held. Cost is $20, with checks made payable to Girls Hoop Club. Applications are available at the Cameron County High School Office. Golf outing for FOP Bucktail Lodge Fraternal Order of Police will hold its annual golf outing on Wednesday, June 11, at the St. Marys Country Club. Additional information is available by calling 781-1315 between 8 am and 4 pm. Grimone honored for basketball Bre Grimone was recently honored as Offensive Player of the Year for the varsity girls' basketball team at Elk County Catholic High School in St. Marys. The daughter of Matt and Barb Grimone, Bre led the Crusaders with a scoring average of 11.2 points per game. ECC posted a 24-2 regular record and won the Allegheny Mountain League championship. LIFT golf tournament A golf tournament to benefit Life and Independence for Today (LIFT) will be held at the Bavarian Hills course in St. Marys on Thursday, May 29.
