POTTER COUNTY ZONING STUDY STALLS A study committee has been named by the Potter County Planning Commission (PCPC) to investigate a zoning ordinance for the county which has been dormant in recent months. PCPC members Mitch De- Long, John Nordquist and Marshall Hamilton are joined on the study committee by former PCPC member Ken Comstock, as well as David Saulter, Karen Stann and Roger Leight. Members held monthly meetings last year to work on a proposal that will be presented to the Planning Commission. However, as PCPC members' attention was diverted to developing regulations to control wind turbine siting, the zoning committee discontinued its meetings. Purpose of the zoning ordinance would be to guide land development and growth in the county. Any regulations would need to be coordinated with the boroughs and townships. DeLong, who raised the zoning issue in late 2006 in the form of a master plan, emphasized that there is no timetable for the committee to make its recommendations to PCPC. Committee members have been reviewing several documents as part of their research, including the county's comprehensive plan and storm water management plan and the region's long-range transportation plan, drawn up by Northcentral Pa. Regional Planning and Development Commission. They also plan to have experts on a variety of subject matters related to zoning appear at their monthly meetings. |
