Falcon girls hit speed bumps

Coming off a big win over powerful Smethport last week, Coudersport's varsity softball team hit a couple of bumps in the road this week as the girls continued to prepare for postseason playoffs.

The Falcons (11-5) took care of Austin, 16-0, in a shortened three-inning affair. Pitchers Korianne McManus and Brielle Whitman combined for the shutout, striking out four and walking just one while surrendering three hits.

Karli Duffee (4 RBI) and Kelly McVay (double) each had two hits for the winners.

Coudersport's bats cooled off over the weekend, however, and Kane handed the visiting Falcons a 4-0 defeat. Whitman and Kayla Bohn had the visitors' only hits off pitcher Kayla Schwartz. Duffee handled mound duties for the Falcons, allowing five hits and fanning seven.

On Wednesday, Bradford's Shelly Fuhrman limited Coudersport to three hits, including doubles by McManus and Whitman, in the Owls' 5-1 win.
