Marathon is set for June 7; help needed The 34th annual God's Country Marathon will be held Saturday, June 7, on the usual Galeton to Coudersport course. It's an AAU-certified race on a 26.2-mile course that challenges runners due to the route up and over Denton Hill. Organizers are looking for volunteers. Director Kim Mitchell reports that there were not enough helpers last year to operate all 26 water stations for the runners. Volunteers are encouraged to decorate their station for prizes awarded after the race. All volunteers are invited to a pre-race pasta dinner for a nominal fee. Vendors and music will be set up at the courthouse square finish line. Organizations are invited to set up a booth, free of charge. Anyone interested in helping with a water station or volunteering in any other way should contact Mitchell at 274-7177 or 274-0843. The marathon is sponsored by the Potter County Visitors Association. Runners will step off at the Galeton Area School at 8 am and follow Rt. 6 to Coudersport. First running will arrive at the finish line sometime around 10:40 am. Spectators are welcome to turn out and cheer on the runners along the course or at the finish line. |
