Mile markers promote 'Do 6'

A new slogan has been born to promote one of the nation's most historic highways: "Do 6."

Before the days of the interstates, U.S. Rt. 6 was the nation's primary east-west highway. Today, it is the subject of heritage- and scenery-based tourist promotion, particularly along its path through northern Pennsylvania.

Mile markers with the Do 6 logo will pop up soon along the 400 miles, according to Route 6 Tourist Association Executive Director Terri Dennison.

"We realized that we needed a system to guide travelers, as well as help businesses give directions to their locations," she explained.

The marker system will help travelers judge distances between towns, attractions and businesses. The markers are green and white and will alternate every other mile on the north and south side of the highway.
