Raiders start baseball playoffs Thursday

Garrett Hornung finds a friendly greeting at third base as he touches them all after a round-tripper in a recent varsity baseball game. Cameron County has a bye in the opening round of the district playoffs and returns to action on the home diamond Thursday at 4:30 against either Clarion-Limestone or A-C Valley.
Cameron County carries some momentum into Thursday's return trip to the PIAA District 9 high school baseball playoffs.

Coach Dick Harrier's Red Raiders (14-2) host the winner of Clarion-Limestone vs. A-C Valley in the D9 quarterfinals at 4:30.

A 13-2 win over visiting Smethport Wednesday put an exclamation point on the regular season.

Sean McManigle drove in five of those runs. He ended the game on the 10-run rule when he smashed a grand slam home run.

Winning pitcher Cameron Clingan added a two-run homer, while Darrick Mason had a double, single and three RBI. Garrett Hornung had a home run and an RBI single. He and Abram Zoschg pitched well in relief.

On Tuesday, Jordan Crane pitched a three-hitter, striking out 13 over five innings, as Cameron County buried Kane, 12-2.

Cameron County Coach Dick Harrier has to be happy with his team's recent performances.
Crane and Corey Reed had two hits apiece and the Raiders benefited from 10 walks.

O n Saturday, Cameron County erased an early deficit with a five-run rally in the second inning and went on to beat Oswayo Valley, 15-5, in five innings.

Hornung and McManigle each homered; McManigle also had a double.

Crane tripled and Mike Baker doubled as the Raiders pounded 11 hits.

Starter Crane was the winning pitcher. Hornung and Zoschg also saw pitching duty.

Last Thursday, Cameron County took care of visiting Otto-Eldred, 10-0, in a fiveinning affair, behind Baker's one-hit pitching.

Crane had a home run, double and single. McManigle drove in three runs with a triple and a double. Matt Kriner had a double, a single and two RBI.

Cameron County hopes to return to the PIAA state playoffs for the third consecutive season.
