Austin, Emporium host Alle-Catt games Sunday

Austin's Andy Cooney slides into home safely.
Austin made a triumphant return to the Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League Sunday, while Emporium scored an impressive win in its season opener.

Both teams are at home this Sunday, as Austin hosts Port Allegany and the Olean Oilers visit Emporium. Games start at 2 pm.

Kevin Gledhill clouted the first of his three home runs in the first inning in Austin's 22-9 win at Olean AOH. Olean came back to take a 5-2 lead through three innings. After that, Austin starter and winning pitcher Kyle Gledhill settled down to work seven innings.

An eight-run explosion in the sixth gave the visitors a lead they would never relinquish. Joe Burgett smacked a long home run to highlight the rally.

Kevin Gledhill went deep in the seventh, then added his third dinger in the eighth. Kirk Duffee followed with a round-tripper and, soon, Cody Housler joined the home run parade.

Meanwhile, Emporium defeated Crosby, 11-6. Pitcher Ryan Bresslin earned the win, going five innings and striking out 10. Ralph McKimm, Ken Meyer and Paul Baker also saw time on the mound.

Meyer had three hits, including a homer. Three additions from the high school baseball team, Jordan Crane, Garrett Hornung, and Sean McManigle, all contributed.
