District IX meet next for track & field standouts

Cameron County's boys and Coudersport's girls came home with the championships at Friday's North Tier League track and field meet.

For many of the athletes, it was a tune-up for this weekend's PIAA District 9 championships at Brookville.

Andy Lippert (100, 11.51; 200, 22.99; 400 relay), the region's fastest sprinter, and fellow runner Taylor Songer (800, 2:01.8) each tripled to lead Cameron County. Tom Jack won the final event of the meet, the discus (112'), to give the Raiders the points they needed to slip past Northern Potter. Randy Schatz added a win in the javelin (166-4).

Songer, Charlie Holjencin and Hunter Bardo were members of the winning 400 and 1600 relay teams. Lippert was on that 400 team while Joey Holjencin was part of the 1600 quartet.

The Red Raiders scored 114.33, followed by Northern Potter (105.33), Otto-Eldred (96), Oswayo Valley, Port Allegany, Smethport and Coudersport.

Heading to Brookville on Friday from Cameron County are Lippert (100, 200); Songer (100, 800); Bardo (300 hurdles); Matt Burke (shot put, 6:00); Schatz and Brian Carlson (both javelin); Charlie Holjencin (400); Joey Holjencin (1600); the boys' 400 and 1600 relay team and, from the girls' team, Shalynn Schatz, shot put.

In the girls' NTL meet, Coudersport (121) outlasted Smethport (108) and Oswayo Valley (106) to top a seventeam field.

Coudersport got doubles from Emily Giannotti (1600, 5:12.76; 3200, 11:22.16) and Jordan Bright (100, 14.02; 400 relay). Both of Giannotti's times were new NTL meet records.

Other Falcon winners were Kristy Kamper (high jump, 4-11; Casey Boucher (javelin, 104-6.5) and the 400 relay team of Bright, Jessica Wilson, Stephanie Kelley and Kaitlyn Karpinski (55.84).

Kamper (high jump) joins Wilson and Boucher (both javelin), as well as Emily Giannotti and her sister, Allison Giannotti (800) as D9 qualifi- ers. From the boys' team, Tim Thomas (200, 400) and Nate Minor (javelin) are heading to districts.
