'Star Party' for public May 31

Astronomical Society of Harrisburg will host the annual Cherry Springs Star Party on Thursday, May 29, through Sunday, June 1.

Astronomers will get together at Cherry Springs State Park for stargazing and informational programs. Several astronomy vendors will be on site.

A public viewing night is scheduled for Saturday, May 31. Visitors will be able to see the all kinds of astronomy equipment and view the night sky through a variety of scopes. The event begins at 8 and concludes at 11.

Cherry Springs State Park is the first official Dark Sky Preserve in Pennsylvania. Recognized as one of the darkest night sky areas in the East, the park hosts public programs on many nights.

This year, the park is partnering with the Potter County Arts Council to present "Music and Stars" programs on June 13, July 11 and August 8.
