Fifteen injured war veterans from nearby VA hospitals are coming to a Potter County on a fishing expedition, thanks to a project of the local Trout Unlimited (TU) chapter.
Volunteers from TU are seeking donations to help make the June 17-20 trip an enjoyable experience.
The group, from hospitals in Buffalo and Batavia, N.Y., consists of veterans who have been injured in service. God's Country TU will give them an opportunity to leave the hospitals and travel to Big Moore's Run Fish and Game Preserve.
There, they will be able to fish for trout, and learn how to tie flies and test adaptive equipment.
"Our chapter is participating in TU's Project Healing Water," explained God's Country Chapter President Dr. Peter Ryan. "It's an ambitious project but, with help from the community, we know we can pull it off."
Ryan and his forces have recruited enough volunteers to help the 15 veterans and they've been able to acquire equipment and other supplies. However, they still need funds to cover food and lodging.
Anyone who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution can make a check out to Project Healing Waters and send it to God's Country TU, P.O. Box 702, Coudersport PA 16915.
The 15 veterans have been wounded and, in most cases, disabled. Goal of Project Healing Waters is to help them in their physical and emotional recovery.
"We have a lot of enthusiasm for this program," Ryan said. "Please join us in helping to provide a unique and healing outdoor experience for our wounded war veterans."
