Emporium edges Austin Alle-Catts Round one of the Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League rivalry between Emporium and Austin went to the veteran squad from Cameron County. The two teams squared off in a thriller Sunday afternoon, with the hosts pulling off a 9-8 win. The Cats (3-1) were powered by Paul Baker (, 2 singles, 2 RBI), Ryan Bresslin (4 singles, 2 RBI), Garrett Hornung (2 singles, 2 walks, 2 RBI), and Ken Meyer (2B, 1B, 1 RBI). Ralph McKimm went seven innings on the mound for the winners, striking out nine, and Ryan Bresslin weathered the storm over the final two innings, earning the win. Kyle Dynda and Kyle Gledhill shared mound duties for Austin (2-2). Dynda, Joe Burgett and Kevin Gledhill each smacked a double. On Saturday, visiting Kane's powerful offense unloaded on Austin with six round-trippers in a 13-4 win. A lightning strike in the seventh inning forced a premature conclusion to the game. Despite the lopsided score, Austin's batters were connecting with the ball, but Kane's defense was solid. All four of Austin's runs came from the long ball. Kevin Gledhill and Kyle Gledhill hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning. Zach Buckler clouted a two-run shot in the fifth. Emporium has a home game against Crosby on Saturday. Austin also plays at home Saturday against Olean AOH. On Sunday, Port Allegany comes to Emporium. All games start at 2 pm. |
