DEER MANAGEMENT ISSUE HEADED TO COURT
PGC science challenged
      A sportsmen's group's challenge against the Pennsylvania Game Commission's (PGC) deer management program will be heard in Commonwealth Court, although the trial could be many months in the future. Activities at Sinnemahoning
      Activities are on tap this weekend at Sinnemahoning State Park in Cameron and Potter counties. A "knee-high naturalist" program will spotlight wildlife with a hike and craft activity on Saturday from 3 to 4 pm, starting at the campground amphitheater.

      Cherry Springs State Park in Potter County will present two nature programs on Saturday night. At 8:30 pm, a program about owls will be presented. Efforts will be made to call screech owls in the vicinity. Those attending should meet at the pavilion.

Park plans children's programs
      Sizerville State Park begins its Environmental Educational Series next month. Children ages from four to five will be able to learn about butterflies, grasshoppers, ladybugs, spiders, ants and bees during three workshops. They are Tuesday through Thursday, July 8-10, from 10 am to 12 pm.

      Eligible landowners interested in enrolling in the Game Commission's Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) have until July 1. Applications may be obtained from the Game Commission's website, pgc.state. pa.us.

      Public input is welcome on the Pa. Game Commission pheasant management plan, posted on the agency's website, pgc. state.pa.us. Calvin W. DuBrock, wildlife management director, said the plan "is science-based, progressive and promotes responsible management.

Clay, archery shoot for JA
      Elk/Cameron Junior Achievement, a school-based program taught by volunteers about money management and how business works, is holding a Clay Shoot/3D Archery Shoot Saturday in Kersey. Proceeds will help cover program costs for the 2008-09 school year.

Cross Fork snake hunt
      One of the region's most popular events, the Cross Fork Snake Hunt, is set for Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29. In addition to the snake booth, there will be a motorcycle show, horseshoe tournament, children's activities, flea market, gun dealers, chicken barbecue and other activities.
