GIVING BACK TO THE REV. SIMPSON
The Rev. Dwight Simpson retired earlier this year from his service at the Faith Baptist Church on Rich Valley Road in Emporium. He now resides in Maryland. Cameron County Ministerium Association is hosting the reception at 6 pm at the Emporium Firehall. Rev. Simpson has been not only a spiritual leader, but also a community servant who has touched many lives in the area. He often helped those in need by visiting patients in hospitals and nursing homes, shopping and other errands, collecting donations for the Salvation Army and heading the Cameron County Food Pantry. "Pastor Simpson has done so much for all of us, so it is our turn to do something nice for him," said the Rev. James Eastman. "He will be deeply touched by everyone's presence at this event." Simpson arrived in the area in 1983 to serve at the First Baptist Chapel in Driftwood and the Austin Baptist Chapel. A home-based Bible study that began more than two decades ago at Prospect Park, outside of Emporium, grew into the church along Rich Valley Road. A graduate of Bedford Area High School, Simpson went to Potomac Valley College in Kaiser, W. Va., and Saulk Seminary of DeVoe Bible School in Louisville, Ken. Eastman has asked area residents to write a note or story about Rev. Simpson and how he has touched their lives. These should be sent by July 15 this address: Rev. James Eastman, 1945 Moore Hill Road, Emporium PA 15834. |
