'Weekend in the Wilds' events listed

Plans are being firmed up for Weekend in the Wilds, set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-16, in Emporium.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce has announced a tentative schedule of events.

Local restaurants will compete in the Cameron County Wild Wings Cook-off on Friday. Later, a movie will be shown outdoors at Memorial Hall.

On Saturday, a car show will be held from 9 am to 3 pm on South Broad Street. Children will be able to explore emergency response vehicles, a recycling truck and dump truck along North Broad Street.

The popular Battle of the Bands at the Cameron County Fairgrounds will be scheduled as part of the celebration. Bands will compete on Aug. 16.

Proceeds will benefit Cameron County SPCA. Other community organizations will be encouraged to set up fundraising booths.

Among the other "Wilds" activities will be a battle of the barrel, motorcycle and bike blessing, three-on-three basketball tournament, food court showcasing local eateries and a Saturday night old-time rock 'n roll dance at the Emporium Country Club, complete with Elvis impersonator.
