 | | Elk State Forest workers installed bat boxes at the Hicks Run Wildlife Viewing Area and near a pond adjacent to the McDonald Food Plot at Dents Run. These mammals aren't always cave-dwellers-- they also are fond of these houses. "Bats are often misunderstood and they are an important biological control for insects - especially mosquitoes," said District Forester Jeanne Wambaugh. Bats can consume more than 3,000 mosquitoes a night, she pointed out. Photo submitted |
