Through An 'Old Timer's' Eyes

Since the Presidential race has narrowed to two candidates, I promised myself that I would not write any more about politics.

The Republicans are quick to put the blame on the Democrats for all of our problems and the other day one of them said Jimmy Carter was to blame, even though it has been 32 years since Lackluster Jimmy was in office.

When I heard that, I decided to break my promise. The Republicans will not stand up and take the blame for the mess that they have made in this country or, for that matter, the whole world.

They have been sending our fine soldiers and billions of dollars to Iraq for more than five years, but what have we accomplished? Their idea for fighting a war is that they don't want any collateral damage. Remember, the admirals and the

Supreme generals are of the same political

Court party as the President.

They don't get promoted by going against the commander in chief.

If you believe that there is a Supreme Being, don't you think he is upset with this country? Look at the devastation that has been poured upon this land. Seems like every day, some terrible natural disaster happens somewhere with in our borders. The forest fires, mudslides, floods and the terrible storms that wipe out entire communities -- makes you wonder, doesn't it?

One thing that would help this nation would be changing the way the justices are put on the Supreme Court. Let the people elect them.

The second thing that should be done is getting rid of the Electoral College. The President should be elected by the popular vote. All a candidate has to do is carry the states with the most electoral votes and he is a winner. The rest of the population might as well have not even voted.

Both the candidates who ran against Bush got more votes, but it didn't mean a thing.

What happened to all the surplus food we had in this country? With the destruction of the corn crop, the raping of the middle class by the big companies who control our fuel supplies, and the do-nothing Congress, we are in for a rough ride.

I pity the guy that captures the White House, as he will never be able to correct this country. Some of the Christian preachers say Jesus will be returning. Well, God, if you are going to send him, now is the time. Divine intervention is probably the only thing that will get us out of this mess.

Modern electronics have just about taken control of our lives. The brain-stealing computer and television and, last but not least, the cellphone.

Just about everywhere you look, there is someone with a cellphone pressed up against the side of his head. At least you can hold it up to your ear and talk all day to yourself, and no one will think you are crazy.
