Alle-Catt teams up and down A roller-coaster season for the Emporium and Austin teams in the Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League continued last weekend. After being buried by Em- porium on Saturday, Austin rebounded for an easy 9-0 win over hapless Crosby on Sunday. No details were reported. Also on Sunday, defensive lapses and a dozen walks proved costly for Emporium in a tough 12-5 defeat at the hands of a tough Kane team. Ralph McKimm Jr. and Jordan Crane handled most of the mound duties for the Cats. Garrett Hornung and Paul Baker also made brief pitching appearances. McKimm did the job with his bat, clouting a pair of doubles and a single while scoring three runs. Ken Meyer had three hits, including a double. Baker, Cameron Clingan and Drew Tompkins added two hits each. In Emporium's 27-11 win over Austin on Saturday, McKimm exploded for two home runs, two singles and six RBI. Rick Uber also had a pair of dingers and a single, plating six more runs. Clingan contributed two roundtrippers and drove in four. Also for the Cats, Tompkins and Baker each had a home run and three singles; Crane and Meyer had three hits apiece; Hornung homered and singled, while Sean McManigle had two hits. Much of Austin's offense came from the bat of Kevin Gledhill, former Emporium slugger, who smacked three home runs, including a grand slam. Ryan Bresslin and Clingan enjoyed all of the run support, as they combined to surrender 15 hits. Emporium is back in action Sunday (2 pm) with a home game against Kane. Austin returns to action on Saturday, July 12, at 2 pm with a home game against the Olean Oilers. East Division Standings: Port Allegany 7-3, Olean AOH 6-4, Austin 6-5, Emporium 5-5, Crosby 0-10. |
