'Across Pond' event may return

With a turnout of about 300 spectators and more than a dozen competitors, organizers of the recent "Fastest Snowmobile Across the Pond" competition on Denton Hill hope to schedule another event in the fall.

Proceeds are being donated to Fisher House, serving disabled veterans.

Organizer Neal Klimek expressed his appreciation to the many sponsors and volunteers who made the event such a success. Klimek is making arrangements for the highlights to be shown on the popular internet site, "YouTube," as well as a local cable TV channel.

First place went to Patrick Hoopes of Ulysses, who sped across the 535-foot pond fullthrottle in less than six seconds. Burton Crowell of Cameron County, formerly of Ulysses, placed second.
