Austin 'town clock' dedicated

Hannah and Mia Glover unveiled the new Austin town clock during a community picnic and dedication ceremony on Sunday. It stands at the corner of Main and Turner streets near the town square.
Some 40 people turned out for a dedication of Austin's new town clock on Sunday.

E.O. Austin Home/Historical Society hosted a community picnic to welcome the Newburghstyle clock at the corner of Main and Turner streets, near the town square.

"It went over very well," said Ron Ebbert, a community leader who helped to spearhead the clock project. "It helped that the weather was beautiful."

Austin Area School students Mia Glover and Hanna Glover unveiled the clock, which stands 11 feet, six inches tall and bears an old-fashioned appearance. The Victorian-style ornamentation at the top reads "Town of Austin." Black and gold leaf trim surrounds an illuminated face.

Others who helped with the project were Andrea Ebbert, Butch Majot, John Rotello (electrical work), Johnny Dynda and Alex Ebbert.

"I want to thank all who worked so hard to make this project the success it was," Ron Ebbert said. "There were visitors from as far away as Ontario, Canada. It was a proud day for the town of Austin."
