Area Police Beat

Almost made it

A Potter County man is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after wrecking his Jeep not far from his home.

According to state police from the Denton Hill barracks, Allen Mowrey, 24, of Mills lost control of the vehicle, causing it to strike an embankment and roll over. Police said Mowery was able to right the vehicle and drive it another 250 feet to his driveway on Marsh Creek Road.

He was taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital by private vehicle for treatment of his injuries and when police interviewed him, they determined that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sexual assault

A Port Allegany man has been jailed in lieu of $150,000 bail after being arraigned yesterday on numerous sexual assault charges.

Eddie Graham, 41, of Skinner Creek Road is accused of assaulting a disabled boy as well as a miniature horse during repeated incidents dating back to 2002.

Rural delivery

Someone damaged mailboxes in Portage Township, Cameron County, last Friday.

Police say a passing motorist struck mailboxes owned by Joseph Caldwell and John Lulick with a blunt object near the softball field along Sizerville Road.

Eye on the road

A St. Marys man faces charges of careless driving after crashing his vehicle in Gibson Township, Cameron County, on Sunday.

State police from Emporium say Richard Snyder, 24, became distracted when switching the radio station in his Ford along Route 155, causing the vehicle to drift off the road and strike a utility pole.

He and his passenger, David Charles, 16, of Weedville, escaped injury; both were wearing seat belts.

Minor injuries

A young child suffered minor injuries in a collision taking place just before 6:00 p.m. on Independence Day in Potter County.

Troopers said the collision occurred when Brett Haskins of Coudersport attempted to turn his southbound Subaru onto Route 244 from Route 44 in Hebron Township and turned into the path of a Dodge driven by Terry Crain, also Coudersport.

A four-year-old girl in Crain's was slightly injured. Officers said the child was properly restrained.
