Volleyball showman brings message Volleyball and evangelism may seem like an odd mix to some, but it works very well for Bob Holmes. The New Hampshire man, who has been featured in Sports Illustrated magazine and numerous TV shows, brings his special skills to Potter and McKean counties beginning this weekend. Holmes is known for competing as a one-man volleyball team against six-member squads, with a victory ratio of more than 90 percent. But the program is about much more than volleyball to Holmes. He uses the sport to draw attention to an inspirational message as he counsels young people on avoiding drugs and alcohol, and on the importance of perseverance and goal-setting. On Sunday morning, Holmes will speak at the First Baptist Church in Roulette at 9:30 and 10:45. He'll show off his volleyball skills during an appearance at the Coudersport High School gym Sunday at 7 pm. Holmes will also put on a volleyball performance at 7 pm Monday at the Port Allegany High School gym and will appear at a girls' volleyball camp in Roulette in the coming week. Anyone interested in the volleyball camp or in competing against Holmes at Coudersport or Port Allegany should call Bruce Greene at 544-8045. |
