Cameron County's war veterans will be honored when a museum opens its doors in Emporium in time for the county's 150th birthday celebration.
Emporium native Joe Yore, now of Palmdale, Calif., plans to open the Cameron County Veterans Museum along Fourth Street by 2010.
The former Hollywood actor recently purchased the house next to the Cabin Kitchen for $77,000. A sign will be erected soon.
"The museum is going to be for the people of Cameron
County," he told Endeavor News.
"It's going to be a different museum."
Yore, a 1953 Emporium High School graduate, welcomes input from residents and invites them to share their military uniforms, medals, stories and history. The museum will span many wars, including World War I, World War II, Vietnam and the Korean War.
"The younger people have not heard enough about our local war heroes," Yore pointed out. "Cameron County has a lot of war heroes."
He will display his own artifacts at the museum, in- cluding autographed photographs and a jacket signed by famous pilots. One exhibit being planned will depict wars through the ages. Some of his possessions are already showcased on a wall in the Cabin Kitchen.

Yore, who served in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956, will visit the area sometime in October.
"I want the people of Cameron County to get involved with a little project," he said. "I am hoping the community will back me up."
Yore added that he is encouraging the Cameron County Historical Society and others interested in local history to support the museum. Those wishing to help should call him at 661-266- 1779.
