Lyman Lake's return was celebrated on Saturday night with a beach party, just days before the final fill cycle was completed, sending water over the spillway and marking the complete restoration of the lake.
"We look forward to seeing everyone out here at Lyman, enjoying the beach, going fishing, or camping, hiking and picnicking," said Park Manager Chip Harrison. "We are 100 percent back in business and look forward to many years of year-'round fun here at the park."
Facilities at the state park are now open, including the Daggett and Lower Campgrounds, beach, food and boat concession, boat mooring and boat launch.
An estimated 300 people attended Saturday's beach party, complete with music, dancing, children's games, beach volleyball and contests. Galeton Rotary Club joined the park staff in sponsoring the celebration.
Safety concerns in 2000 forced state officials to drain the lake that had formed when a dam was built in the 1950s. The new dam, built at a cost of about $17 million, has created a lake that is about 36 feet at its deepest point.
