Driftwood roadway opened

A temporary roadway was opened to traffic this week as crews continued work on replacement of the Route 555 bridge in Driftwood.

PennDOT reported that Clearwater Construction began work on the eastern portion of site, with hopes of completing the $3.4 million project in August 2009.

Work came to a halt in March after workers discovered an unidentified noxious chemical that sent a few construction workers to the hospital as a precaution.

PennDOT called in the Pa. Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) to assess the site where contractors had excavated a small area along Route 555, near the creek.
