Downtown burglary

A burglarly last weekend in downtown Coudersport, just a block from the business district, is being investigated by police.

Sometime between 11:30 Saturday night and 6:30 am Sunday, thieves struck at the William Morgart II property on North West Street.

They siphoned about five gallons of diesel fuel from a vehicle; entered a shed and removed antiques, including an oak pressed brown rocker, clothes tree and a mahogany piano stool; kicked in a locked garage door and took a chainsaw, drill, and two trunks filled with antique items.

State police from the Denton Hill barracks are heading the investigation.

Cyclist injured

A downstate motorcyclist was injured in an accident Friday afternoon on Route 44 in Stewardson Township, near Cross Fork.

State police said Curtis Smith of Fenton was descending Pine Mountain when his Harley Davidson slid out of control on the road as it encountered an oily substance. The cycle struck a guardrail and turned over onto its right side. Smith was taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport by private vehicle.

Hurt in DUI crash

Charges have been filed against an Emporium woman following a crash early Saturday morning on Route 155, just south of the Four Mile Road in Shippen Township. Emporium-based state police said Heather Olivett, 24, was headed north when the right side wheels of her Subaru Outback dropped onto the gravel berm and the unit struck a mailbox.

When she tried to bring the car back onto the road, it spun, traveled down an embankment and struck a utility pole, shearing it in half. Olivett, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries.

She is being cited for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Vehicle parts stolen

Theft of catalytic converters from three vehicles last week is under investigation by state police at the Denton Hill barracks.

Troopers report that equipment was removed from vehicles at Bidwell Auto on Route 6 in Burtville between 5 pm Wednesday and 5 pm Thursday.

Rash of vandalism Emporium-based state police are investigating several recent incidents of vandalism in Cameron County.

Thieves entered a camp on Moore Hill Road owned by James Strock of Wyomissing through an unlocked front window over the past six weeks. Once inside, they turned on the water, causing $500 in damage to the deep well pump.

Vandals damaged a mailbox at the Emporium Health Center between last Thursday and Sunday.

Police say an Ohio man damaged a car in Emporium on Sunday. Jason Green, of Canton, Ohio, kicked the door of a vehicle owned by Kimberly Jamison of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building park lot.

Someone damaged a mail box at a property in Shippen Township last weekend. Police say a blunt object was used to damage the post of the mailbox at John Richnafsky's property on Sylvan Heights between Friday and Saturday.

Injured in cycle crash

A motorcyclist and his passenger were injured in a collision last Tuesday afternoon on Route 120 in Grove Township, Cameron County.

Emporium-based state police said the collision occurred when Wilbur Weaver of Altoona, who was traveling west, turned his car left to enter a parking lot into the path of a motorcycle being operated by Shannon Clark of Harleysville.

Clark was wearing a helmet but his passenger, Susan Johnson of Westville, was not. Neither Weaver nor a passenger in his car was injured.

Camp burglarized Investigation continues into the burglary of a camp in Gibson Township.

Police report that someone removed lumber from the seasonal residence, owned by Frank Scrip of Belle Vernon, between May 1 and last Friday.

Charged with rape

A Coudersport man has been charged with rape after an alleged incident Sunday morning at a campsite in Summit Township.

Police say 46-year-old David A. Thomas took a boy and a 12-year-old girl camping with him at Prouty Place State Park. Thomas is accused of sexually assaulting the girl. She and the boy notified police, who apprehended Thomas at the scene.

Caskets vandalized

Vandals damaged five caskets at a mausoleum in Whites Corners Cemetery in Potter County.

State police at Denton Hill say the vandals cut the locks to the Kibbe family mausoleum and then caused extensive damage to the caskets. The damage occurred between Memorial Day and last weekend.

Criminal mischief

Some recent criminal mischief incidents are being probed by state police at Denton Hill.

Sometime between June 23 and July 2, vandals scratched letters into the floor of the men's restroom at the Genesee Park and damaged the door.

In a separate incident, vandals slashed a tire on a 2003 Ford Explorer owned by Michael Williams of Shinglehouse on Sunday while it was parked at the Sharon Rod and Gun Club on Canada Hollow Road in Sharon Township.
