Frances G. Black

Frances Greenan Black, 85, a resident of the Rydal Park Retirement Community for the past 15 years and formerly of Cliffside Park, N. J., died at her home on Monday (July 7, 2008). She was the beloved wife of the Rev. Donald Black for 64 years.

Born in Austin, she was the daughter of Pansy Armstrong Greenan and Joseph Greenan. After graduating from Emporium High School in 1940, Mrs. Black attended Grove City College, where she earned a bachelors degree in business administration in 1944.

Mrs. Black was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother who in the late 1970s, after having raised her family, worked as an administrative secretary and later circulation manager for Church Women United. She enjoyed traveling and with her husband had been to Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia.

Rev. and Mrs. Black resided in London from 1972- 1976, at which time Rev. Black served as pastor of American Church in London. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and needlepoint. She was a member of Abington Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons and their spouses: David Black of Phoenix, Ariz.; Donald and Judy Black of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Joseph and Cathy Black of Lapeer, Mich.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Timothy Black, who died in 1957.

A memorial service was held at Rydal Park. Burial was in the memorial gardens of Abington Presbyterian Church.
