Emporium's bats are booming as the Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League season winds down. Manager Ralph McKimm Sr.'s troops hope to carry their torrid hitting into Saturday's showdown in Roulette against division-leading Port Allegany (2 pm).

The Cats scored at will last Saturday at Ludlow, winning a 36-12 laugher.

Winning pitcher Ken Meyer had a whopping seven hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in six runs. He worked five innings on the mound, striking out nine.

Paul Baker, Rick Uber and Brian Zetwick also saw some pitching action.

Uber had five singles. Drew Tompkins and Jon Meyer each contributed four hits. Nick Keller added a double and two singles. Preston Mullens hit Emporium's only home run and drove in four runs.

"It was a good win," said McKimm. "We pounded out 27 hits and stole a lot of bases."

Austin added two wins by forfeit last weekend over the Olean Oilers and Crosby.

Crosby has already forfeited Sunday's scheduled game at Emporium, while Austin travels to Olean to meet the Royals Sunday at 2 pm.
