WOODSMEN'S SHOW CONTINUES

More activities than ever are on tap as the 57th annual Woodsmen's Show continues through the weekend at Cherry Springs State Park in central Potter County. Galeton Rotary Club operates the show each year, attracting thousands of people from several states.

As always, some of the top lumberjacks in the country will compete starting at noon Saturday in events such as crosscut saw, springboard, ax-throwing, tree-felling, log-rolling, one-man buck and chainsawing.

Exhibits, vendors and historical re-enactments commemorate the bountiful forest and the life of the woodhick. There are many food and refreshment booths.

In the last few years, the show has complemented its traditional events with bluegrass and folk music on the stage, chainsawcarving, and demonstrations of traditional lumberjack skills in the "Woodhick Grove" logging camp.

On Sunday at noon, the old-fashioned method of removing trees from the forest will be celebrated with the horse-pulling competition. The audience will witness the strength of these draft horses as they pull thousands of pounds of logs.

Gates open Saturday and Sunday 9 am. Admission on Saturday is $7 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12 years old. On Sunday, it's $5 for adults and $3 for children

Cherry Springs State Park is located on Route 44, 15 miles south of Coudersport. Additional details are available from internet at woodsmenshow. com.
