Falcon baseball team wins opener, 11-1
      Coudersport embarked on what should be a successful high school baseball season by dominating Kane, 11-1, in Wednesday's season opener at CARP Field. Adam Dow earned the mound win with an effective knuckleball in a game shortened to five innings by the 10- run rule.

Falcons win softball opener
      Coudersport opened the 2009 high school softball season on a winning note Wednesday at Kane. Pitchers Karli Duffee and Kori McManus combined on a four-hitter and struck out 12 as coach Scott Andrews' Falcons prevailed, 14-2. Senior Kayla Bohn, the sparkplug at the top of the batting order, had three hits and two RBI. Megan Hau also stroked three hits, including a double.

Elk County Race Car Show planned April 4
      One of the region's largest motorsports show is set for Saturday, April 4, near St. Marys. It's the seventh annual Elk County Race Car Show, to be held just off Rt. 255 in Fox Township, south of St. Marys. Racers from throughout Cameron, Elk, McKean, Jefferson, and Clearfield counties will be displaying their cars and go-karts from 11 am through 2 pm.

Basketball tournament Saturday
      A three-on-three basketball tournament will be held in Emporium on Saturday. Cameron County Boys' Hoop Club is sponsoring the Chris Purcell Memorial at the high school gym. Cost is $40 per team. Male and female divisions have been established as follows: grades 5-6, grades 7-8, grades 9-11, and open division.
