Cowburn repeats as top Big 30 wrestler
      Two-time PIAA Class AA state wrestling champion Dirk Cowburn from Coudersport High School repeated as the Olean (N.Y.) Times Herald Big 30 Wrestler of the Year. Cowburn walked through the 2007-08 season, going 38-0 and becoming the Falcons' second state champion when he won the 152-pound title in Hershey.

Pitching depth key in Falcons early success
      Adam Dow isn't exactly a fireballer, but the senior pitcher gets the job done. Dow's floating knuckleball baffled Otto-Eldred Monday in Coudersport's 13-3 high school baseball win at CARP Field. Coach Doug McClintic's Falcons improved to 4-1 with the win.

Raiders notch softball win
      Cameron County notched its first varsity softball win of the season last week, 9-4, over visiting Austin. Brady Belkowski powered the offense with four of the Red Raiders' seven hits. Freshman Leah Pearsall was the winning pitcher, striking out six, walking three and surrendering four hits.

Falcons unbeaten in softball
      The high-flying Falcons improved to 5-0 with a 9-0 win over visiting Otto-Eldred Monday afternoon at Metzger Field. Senior pitcher Karli Duffee mowed down the Terrors, tossing a no-hitter and striking out seven. "Karli pitched a great game for us," said Coudersport coach Scott Andrews. "She kept a hot-hitting team off-balance and we continued to hit the ball well.

Baseball competition April 19
      Austin Baseball Association will hold its fourth annual Pitch, Hit and Run Competition on Sunday, April 19, at the Gary Williams Memorial Baseball Fields in Austin. This free skills competition for players ages 7-14 encourages participation in baseball and allow youngsters to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities.

      Nine members of the Penn State DuBois women's basketball team have been named to the PSUAC Academic All-Conference Team. Among the selections are Cameron County High School graduate Whitney Lewis and Lauren Donovan from Oswayo Valley.

      Bowling is a multi-generational sport that is alive and well in the area. Cameron County Youth Bowling Association sponsored a tournament that attracted 62 young keglers and resulted in Noelle Austin (left) and Tabitha McLeod (right) qualifying for the State Scholarship Tournament, to be held May 15-16 in Butler.
