Sentenced to jail for selling marijuana
      A Genesee man received a jail sentence for selling marijuana. Jeremy Cramer, 33, and a co-defendant were dealing the drug in the village of Genesee. He'll spend two to 23 1.2 months in jail, perform 25 hours of community service, spend a year on probation and pay a $500 fine.

     Employees of Tri-County Rural Electric conducted separate safety demonstrations for PennDOT staff and 4-H members on Wednesday afternoon at the Coudersport Consistory. During the demonstration, rubber boots, gloves, a stick and a ladder were all brought into contact with an energized source, either catching on fire or smoking upon touching the source. In another demonstration, a hot dog burst into flames when placed against an energized car door - illustrating what could happen to a human hand in the same situation. "If you don't get anything else out of this, remember this - stay away from downed power lines," said Tri-County representative Gerald Duffee. Persons whose vehicle comes into contact with power lines should not attempt to leave their vehicle until the electric company arrives to deal with the situation, Duffee noted.

Western Pennsylvania gas prices rose 6.7 cents during the week leading up to Memorial Day, increasing the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline to $2.429.

Motorcyclists injured in separate crashes
      Motorcycle crash A downstate motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash occurring on Rt. 872 near the Portage Road in southern Potter County last Friday evening. Jeffrey L. Striegel, 54, of Falls Creek, was driving south at a high rate of speed when his bike failed to negotiate a right hand.

Road work in Potter, Cameron
      Crews will begin road improvement work across five state routes in Potter and Cameron counties in the coming week. Work will begin on Route 6 and then move to Route 872, followed by Routes 46, 120 and 2001 in Cameron County.

Police issuing bicycle licenses
      Emporium Borough Police Department will be issuing bicycle licenses every Saturday in June from noon to 4 pm at the old firehall on Fifth Street. Cost is $1.00 per license.
